“Pound Shop”

The Martlets Retail Team is running a “Pound Shop”

Charitable trusts and foundations

Our work enjoys the support of many charitable trusts and foundations. Trust donors have been essential to the establishment, continuation and growth of the Hospice. They have supported all aspects of our operations from the original capital appeal to running costs, patient services, new service developments and equipment needs.

Here are some recent examples of the work supported by charitable trusts and foundations.

Dementia Training Project - The Argus Appeal gave a grant of £5,000 in March 2010 to support a programme of training at the Hospice in caring for patients who have dementia as well as terminal illness.  The training will help to ensure that our clinical staff can respond to the needs of these patients.

IT Equipment - In January 2010, the Paphitis Charitable Trust gave a grant of £1,000 towards the costs of purchasing new computer equipment to aid the smooth and efficient running of the Hospice.

Patient Hoists - In July 2009, we were able to purchase two new hoists to aid  the safe and comfortable movement of the most unwell and immobile Hospice patients.  These items were funded thanks to a generous grant from the Hove and Portslade Aid in Sickness Association.

Day Hospice Minibus - Grants from the BDNA Trust and the Valerie Emily Munday Will Trust received in August 2008 helped us to meet our appeal target to buy a new minibus for our Day Hospice.

Medical Equipment - A generous grant from the Childwick Trust in June 2008 enabled us to buy a range of equipment for our patients including a changing plinth and dressings trolley for our Day Hospice.

Carers Support Groups - Our plans to run support groups for the carers of our patients from 2008 onwards were realised thanks to grants from the Henry Smith Charity in July 2008 and from the Sandra Charitable Trust in December 2009.

Martlets @ Home Service - The establishment of a nursing team to deliver Hospice care to local people in their own homes since 2002 has been supported by the BDNA Trust, The Worshipful Company of Grocers, the Richard Radcliffe Charitable Trust and the Henry Smith Charity.

Staff Uniforms - In October 2007, we received a grant from The Argus Appeal to support the costs of purchasing replacement uniforms for our nurses and other healthcare staff.

Beds and Chairs - Our 2007 appeal to buy replacement beds and chairs for use by patients in the Day Hospice and InPatient Unit was supported by a number of trusts.  Donors included the Hove and Portslade Aid in Sickness Association, the Albert Hunt Trust, the Ladbrokes in the Community Charitable Trust and the Elise Pilkington Charitable Trust.

Day Hospice Entertainments - In 2007 and 2008, The Concertina Charitable Trust made donations to enable us to commission singing and theatrical performances for our Day Hospice patients.

Hospice Kitchen Oven - The Albert Hunt Trust gave a grant to us in January 2009 to buy a new oven to provide hot meals to our patients every day.

Crockery and Cutlery - A number of donors helped us to buy new crockery and cutlery between 2006 and 2008 including The Worshipful Company of Cutlers, the Roger Raymond Charitable Trust and the Simpson Charitable Trust.

We are supported by national, local and personal private trusts with help ranging from one off and regular gifts to grants over 3 years and from £20 to over £20,000.

We are very grateful to all the charitable trusts and foundations who have supported our work and enabled us to respond to the needs of our patients and their loved ones.

We are always looking to build relationships with new Trust donors and we have a range of projects and services for Trusts to support ranging from aspects of patient care services to specific items of equipment. Please use the link below to view our Wish List which details just some of the items that can be supported.
