What Makes so Many Women Give up a Night's Sleep for Us?

There are as many reasons for walking as there are women taking part. Many people have had personal experience of the hospice, having lost someone close to them and want to do the walk as a way to give back, or, in memory of their loved one.

For others it is simply a great way to support a local charity and experience the camaraderie of coming together with lots of other women for a good cause. Some are taking on a personal challenge, have had their arms twisted by friends, or have signed up after too much wine! Whatever the reason we are always humbled and delighted by how supportive our local community is.

  • I have gone through the pain of losing someone to cancer and feeling that absolute helplessness. Hospice does such good work helping people through some of the most challenging experiences of their lives. This is my way of giving back.
  • I would love to do something for charity and give something back. What better than surrounded by women with the same intentions.
  • Martlets hospice cared for my Grandad when he was dying last year and l'd like to raise some money for them.
  • Because my friend did it last year and wanted some moral support this year.
  • I became aware of the Martlets due to the fact the my father was ill two years ago and stayed in the Martlets before he died, so I got to witness the brilliant care the all the staff and volunteers gave him. I know that the Martlets really depends on their donations therefore I would love to raise as much money as possible for them.
  • A fantastic opportunity to help a fantastic organisation.
  • My mum was in the Martlets and I want to be able to raise money for the Martlets and feel this is such a great way to be able to raise money, it also is a good way to remember a loved one.
  • I wanted to do the walk for the third time to support the wonderful work the Martlets does and in memory of a very dear friend who died at the Martlets last year.
  • My mum made me do it!!
  • A challenge to do something worthwhile.
  • Only managed 7 miles 2 years ago. Have recently lost 6 stone and ready to try and complete the challenge.
  • I have done the walk twice before and want to do it this year with my daughter.
  • It's my 5th time and I have so much fun...... I just wouldn't miss it for the world !
  • It seemed like a good idea after a glass of wine with friends!!!!
