Our physiotherapist and occupational therapists are on hand to support patients on the In-Patient Unit, being cared for by the Hospice at Home team and using Martlets Day Services.

Who We Are

“Physiotherapy is now recognised as an essential service in Palliative Care. Patients find it very empowering as it can help them regain control, whether that is managing pain or breathlessness.” explained Ruth, Senior Physiotherapist at the Martlets.

“I’m often the link between the Martlets and a patient’s home. I’ll assess the home environment to ensure the patient will be able to have the best quality of life there, I can provide equipment and aids to assist the carers, or to allow the patient to be more independent.” Heidi, Senior Occupational Therapist told us.

The Rehabilitation Team

Our senior occupational therapist, senior physiotherapist and rehabilitation assistant offer one to one appointments for patients and carers on Wednesdays as part of the Martlets Day Services. They provide advice and support on:

  • Mobility/transfer assessment

  • Advice on breathlessness management
  • Advice on exercise programmes and activity levels
  • Advice on home adaptations
  • Stair assessments
