Steve Shows True Grit

Superman Steve Amiet from Brighton ran 100km to raise money for us recently.

Steve, 48, completed the 62 mile run from London to Brighton in less than 16 hours on Saturday May 28th. Setting off at 6.45am from Richmond he arrived at Brighton Racecourse in time for a well earned beer at 10.42pm.

He said: "I chose to run for Martlets because the Hospice is close to the whole of my family's hearts; we've had friends and family who've been patients there and really appreciate the work they do.

"It was the longest run that I've done so far, although I have trained hard for it over the last eight months; running about 600 miles and completing seven marathons!

"The run went really well, there were some highs and lows, as you'd expect over that kind of distance. However, I had great support from the start and all the way down to Brighton from my wife, running mates and family. Seeing them cheering me on really gave me my second wind.

"Running over the finishing line was something that I shall never forget.

"My family thinks I'm totally mad to take on these challenges but I'm already training for my next one, which is the Lakeland 50 miles in July."

Antonia Shepherd from our Events Team said, "Congratulations to Steve for showing true grit and determination in completing this tremendous challenge.

"We want to say a big 'Thank you' to him; it's only due to the amazing support of people like Steve that the Hospice is able to provide its vital care free from charge to our patients and their families.

"His efforts have made a real difference to the lives of local people."
