What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient therapy which involves inserting fine needles into specific points on the body to help relieve distressing symptoms or just enhance energy and well-being.

What Does It Feel Like?

You might feel a mild tingling sensation but for most people the needles are painless. It’s a very safe procedure and research has shown that around 80% of patients symptoms will improve.

We recommend that you have three to six treatments for the best results.

What Can It Be Helpful for?

  • Pain
  • Nausea
  • Breathlessness
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety
  • Fatigue
  • Dry Mouth
  • General Wellbeing

Who We Are

The Acupuncture Clinic is run by Josie and Caroline, both registered nurses, on Mondays between 2pm and 4pm at the Martlets Hospice. The clinic is run as part of Martlets Day Services.

On Fridays the clinic runs on the In-Patient Unit between 2pm and 4pm with Marc, a volunteer therapist.

Who Can Use the Service?

To use the service you’ll need to be referred by your healthcare professional, ask your Clinical Nurse Specialist, Palliative Care Nurse or GP to refer you to the Acupuncture clinic. If you are on the Martlets In-Patient Unit speak to your nurse who’ll be able to refer you.
Acupuncture is a free service at the Martlets, but if you’re able to we would appreciate a suggested donation of £10 towards cost of the treatment.
