Peter James Backs Snowdogs by the Sea

Peter James has announced he’s getting behind Brighton & Hove’s biggest ever art trail Snowdogs by the Sea by sponsoring a Snowdog. Working with his publisher Pan Macmillan the dog will appear as part of the art trail this autumn, the dog’s name and design is still top secret but the author revealed it will have a police theme – linked to his Detective Superintendent Roy Grace crime series.

Snowdogs by the Sea will see more than 40 individually designed 1.5m tall Snowdog sculptures appearing throughout the city during autumn 2016. The trail is being co-ordinated by, and will raise funds for, local charity the Martlets Hospice, who are working with Wild in Art, one of the UK’s leading creative producers of public art events. Each Snowdog will help bring art to the streets and the people of Brighton & Hove.
The sculpture trail is inspired by the animated film The Snowman and The Snowdog, the hugely popular sequel to Raymond Brigg’s classic story The Snowman. The Snowdog provides The Snowman with a cute canine companion and together with Billy, all three go on a magical adventure one snowy night.

Peter James said
“So many great cities around the world have symbolic animals, and with Raymond Brigg’s Sussex connections, this is perfect. I think the Snowdog is a brilliantly innovative and hugely fun concept, with enormous potential benefit to one of our city’s finest institutions, the Martlets. The residents of Brighton and Hove are fortunate to have this amazing hospice, it is a truly wonderful and caring place with some of the loveliest and most devoted staff I’ve ever met anywhere. But it is dependent on charity for 85% of its running costs. This will help a great deal, and I feel very honoured and very thrilled to be part of this.”

Sarah Harvey, Snowdogs by the Sea project manager told us
“Peter James has been a valuable supporter of the Martlets for some time now so we’re very excited to announce that he has decided to support our Snowdogs by the Sea campaign and we can’t wait to meet his Snowdog! Peter is a best-selling author so we know that he’ll give our campaign a real boost and we’re looking forward to working with him again. “

If any businesses would like to support this extraordinary event there are a range of sponsorship packages available. Contact Sarah Harvey for more information.

The project is in partnership with Wild in Art, which has famously presented similar events in cities across the UK including The Big Hoot in Birmingham, Gromit Unleashed in Bristol and Go Superlambananas in Liverpool, attracting worldwide headlines. Previous Wild in Art events have brought significant benefits to the local economy by providing invaluable media exposure for the businesses and cities involved and increasing the footfall in areas where the sculptures are located.
